Stephen V. Mackey
President/CEO (Full Time)
Stephen is responsible for the Chamber’s strategic planning, public relations, public advocacy, membership, networking, benefits, and all administrative, membership development, fiscal, employee, and volunteer management. Starting at the Chamber in 1995, Stephen has been instrumental in: reframing Somerville for regional transit and the global urban resurgence; repositioning Somerville as “New England’s Next Business Address;” and representing the economic and enterprise perspectives of businesses, employers, property owners and developers. He has helped: advance Somerville as a metropolitan dining and nightlife destination; introduce popular networking events such as the Business After Hours Series, Business Town Meeting, and the Taste of Somerville; and publish the weekly Monday Morning Post. Prior to the Somerville Chamber, Stephen served as: a consultant to small business, non-profits, and public agencies; a field consultant to political and ballot question campaigns; a policy analyst and chief speechwriter and a chamber membership director. Throughout his career, Stephen has been active in various community organizations, most notably as a co-founder of Groundwork Somerville which promotes environmental, economic and social well-being and as a trustee of the Somerville Museum – the community’s leading center of history, arts, and culture. Joanne Haley
Bookkeeper/Office Manager (Part Time)
Joanne directs and oversees office operations and systems including accounts payable/receivables, database, and purchasing. Joanne also helps design, produce and manage print and electronic marketing materials and assists with the development and implementation of programs and activities. Joanne brings twenty years of experience as an office manager and bookkeeper in a variety of small business industries. Throughout her career, Joanne has served various organizations and associations connected to the Somerville Public Schools. A graduate of Somerville High School with advanced courses bookkeeping and accounting courses at Bentley College, Joanne and her husband, Rick, live in Somerville and have a daughter, Susan, and son, Daniel.
